MADISON -- Matt Murlick posted his second straight 69 to finish tied for fourth at 8-under-par 208 and lead the Marquette men's golf team to a third-place finish at the season-opening Badger Invitational at University Ridge GC.

Austin Kendziorski's 67 moved him to 6-under and into a tie for sixth, and Marquette shot 7-under-par 281 in the final round to finish in third place at 17-under 847. That was eight shots behind first-place Texas A&M.

Murlick (70-69-69--208) and Kendziorski (77-69-69--210) carded career-low event scores and career-best finishes in the season opener. Marquette posted its best 54-hole score (289-277-281--847) since shooting 840 (24-under-par) Oct. 23-25, 2015 at the Price's Give `Em Five Invitational in El Paso, Texas.

Murlick finished four shots off the final pace set by Texas A&M's Chandler Phillips (12-under-par), while Kendziorski shot the second-lowest round of the day to move into contention. Marquette also counted a 1-under 71 from Hunter Eichhorn -- the freshman's first sub-par round in college -- and a 74 from reigning Big East Conference champion Matthew Bachmann.

The Golden Eagles threw out an 80 from Oliver Farrell. Individual competitors Ferdinand Muller (76), Garrett Loomis (79) and Charlie Maleki (81) all struggled on the last day of the three-day, 54-hole event.

UW freshman Griffin Barela shot his third straight sub-par round, a 3-under 69, to finish tied for eighth at 5-under 211. The Badgers also counted a 70 from senior Eddie Wajda, a 71 from junior Pete Kuhl and a 72 from junior Nick Robinson while tossing a 76 from junior Jordan Hahn, who came into the final round in third place but ultimately finished tied for 15th at 2-under 214.

Badgers individuals Sam Anderson (75-223), Michael Abrahamson (72-223), Tom Calbi (75-231), Robbie Morway (76-233) and Brett Robinson (77-238) all finished outside the top 45.
