DAYTONA BEACH, Florida -- The birdie drought ended Thursday for Allyssa Ferrell with three holes to go in the second round of the final stage of LPGA Tour Qualifying School.
Unfortunately for the Edgerton native, it didn't happen until after she made five more bogeys and fell 15 shots off the pace in a tie for 133rd place in the 165-golfer field after 36 holes of the 90-hole event.
Ferrell began on the back nine and bogeyed Nos. 11, 13 and17 (all par-4s) to make the turn in 3-over 39. She bogeyed the par-5 second hole and par-4 sixth before making her first birdie of the week at the par-3 seventh hole.
American Marissa Steen shot 67 and, at 6-under 138, took a one-stroke lead over Nasa Hataoka. The top 70 golfers and ties after Saturday's fourth round will compete in the final round Sunday at LPGA International.
