Senior Hunter Eichhorn (71.5) and junior Tyler Leach (73.25), ranked first and fourth in program history for career scoring average, will anchor Marquette's lineup for the Big East Match Play on Monday and Tuesday at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Fla. The Golden Eagles will play Connecticut in the Monday morning opener before squaring off with De Paul in the afternoon. They will close out the event Tuesday morning against Seton Hall.

Marquette, which last competed Feb. 16-18, 2020 at the Puerto Rico Classic, is the first of the state's NCAA Division I golf programs to return to action after having its spring and fall seasons canceled by COVID-19.

The University of Wisconsin men's team will open the spring season Friday at the Big Ten Match Play in Hammock Beach, Fla., while the Badgers women's team will first tee it up Feb. 19 at the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational in Lake Oconee, Ga. The UW-Green Bay men will play their first event of the 2020-21 season March 29 at the Butler Invitational in Indianapolis while the Phoenix women open the same day at the Eastern Kentucky Invitational in Richmond, Ky.

"(It's big) that these guys will get to play with their college team for the first time in 11 months and they're really eager to get out and compete again," Marquette coach Steve Bailey said in a statement. "A few of them have played some individual events and played over the summer, but no chance to put on their logo again and go out and compete. (I'm) super excited for that opportunity and really thankful for all of the folks that made this possible."

Eichhorn and Leach will join redshirt freshmen Aidan Lafferty and Josh Robinson, junior transfer Nicholas Evangelio and freshman Scott Schlader in the Golden Eagles' lineup. Lafferty and Robinson both played in five events as true freshmen while the Big East Match Play will mark the Marquette debuts of Evangelio, a Spaniard who played the last two seasons at Missouri Valley College; and Schlader, the Golden Eagles' lone true freshman from Phoenix.

Marquette will lean heavily on Eichhorn, a 2020 Ping All-American in his fourth season with the Golden Eagles. He won the 2019 Windon Memorial and the Marquette Intercollegiate and is ranked 11th in the PGA Tour University Rankings with the top five finishers earning Korn Ferry Tour membership after the 2021 NCAA Championships and the next 10 finishers receiving membership on one of the PGA Tour's other developmental tours.

"Our plan is to play golf right now and we're hoping that our season continues to go on as planned," Eichhorn said in a statement. "Our plan is just to take advantage of all the opportunities we get. Obviously, it has been a long year. We haven't been able to play going back to last spring, so we're just looking forward to getting out there and competing."

Leach, meanwhile, looks to pick up where he left off after a breakthrough sophomore season. He won the 2019 Crooked Stick Invitational and, after the first of two COVID layoffs from collegiate competition, reached the quarterfinals of the WSGA State Match Play Championship, and finished runner-up at the Wisconsin State Amateur and 11th at the Wisconsin State Open.

"There have been a lot of people throughout this whole process that we are really appreciated for the work they put in," Bailey said, "and just thankful for the opportunity to get out and compete again."
