Seeing the name Stricker in Wisconsin.Golf headlines is nothing new, but a series of ground-breaking headlines during August came from a rather unlikely source in the Stricker family tree.

University of Wisconsin golfer Bobbi Stricker of Madison — yes, the daughter of PGA Tour veteran Steve Stricker — made a name for herself by parlaying an opening-round 66 at the Badger Mutual Insurance Women's Amateur at Brown Deer Park Golf Course in Milwaukee into a two-stroke victory over eventual Wisconsin Women's State Golf Association Player of the Year Mikayla Hauck, an Eastern Kentucky University golfer from Cottage Grove.

That also earned Stricker an exemption into the Symetra Tour PHC Classic, also played on the same Brown Deer Park layout that her father played during the golden years of the Greater Milwaukee Open. She shot 77-74, but missed the 36-hole cut competing as an amateur in her first professional event.

Bobbi Stricker begins our countdown of the top 18 stories of 2018 as chosen by the Wisconsin.Golf staff. Here is Wisconsin.Golf coverage of her victory at the BMI Women's Amateur and her experience at the PHC Classic, which occupy the No. 18 spot for her work in that memorable two-week stretch during August.
