Tess Hackworthy | 2018 Wisconsin State Women's Open champion

Tess Hackworthy had a lot of time to prepare for her latest title defense at the Wisconsin Women's State Open Championship.

The University of Wisconsin golfer from Madison sat out the 2017-18 season as a redshirt on a Badgers team with abundant depth and talent at the top of the lineup. Hackworthy didn't waste any time shaking the rust off of her game.

She shot rounds of 71 and 76 at a demanding Janesville Country Club and won her third straight Women's State Open title by four shots over Eastern Kentucky golfer Mikayla Hauck of Cottage Grove. Hackworthy led by as many as six shots early on the back nine in the final round before holding on to join Carolyn Barnett-Howe (2005-07) and Malinda Johnson (2008-10) as the only golfers in the 22-year history of the event to win it three years in a row.

Hackworthy, who returned to the Badgers lineup this fall, will try to become the first golfer to win the Women's State Open four years in a row this June at Stevens Point CC.
