Irish Course at Whistling Straits

The Irish Course at Whistling Straits

The first of Wisconsin's most popular destination golf courses will start welcoming golfers to the first tee Friday.

Destination Kohler announced Wednesday that the Irish Course at Whistling Straits in Haven and the original championship course at Blackwolf Run in Kohler will open for the season Friday. As of Wednesday evening, the online booking portal for Kohler's four championship courses showed tee times on both courses starting at 9 a.m. with greens ranging from $105 to $80 (twilight starting at 2:50 p.m.) to $65 (super twilight starting at 4:50 p.m.)

According to the tee time portal, the Straits Course at Whistling Straits will begin taking tee times April 22. At Blackwolf Run, meanwhile, the River Course and the Meadow Valley courses will open their regular-season routing that same day.

The Kohler courses will soon have company as the state's top courses prepare for the 2022 season.

  • Wild Rock GC in Wisconsin Dells will open Saturday, director of golf operations Patrick Stein told Wisconsin.Golf in an email. Nearby Trappers Turn GC has not announced an opening date, but is taking tee times starting Friday.
  • The Links Course at the Golf Courses of Lawsonia in Green Lake is taking tee times starting April 12. Tee times on the Woodlands Course are not available online until April 29.
  • University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, host of the American Family Insurance Championship on PGA Tour Champions, will open April 15.
  • Sand Valley Golf Resort near Nekoosa has posted 2022 rates for its championship courses that begin April 29, but has not yet announced it as its 2022 opening day.
  • Erin Hills near Milwaukee, which played host to the 2017 U.S. Open Championship, will open May 2.
  • SentryWorld in Stevens Point, which has been closed most of the last two seasons to prepare for the 2023 U.S. Senior Open, will open June 1.

Meanwhile, other courses throughout the state continue to open, joining those that opened ahead of recent snowfall throughout the state.

In Milwaukee, Brown Deer Park GC — the former home of the Greater Milwaukee Open on the PGA Tour — and Oakwood Park GC in Franklin will open for the season Friday. The City of Madison Parks Department has yet to announce opening dates for its championship courses at Odana Hills GC and Yahara Hills GC, but the popular city of Middleton-owned Pleasant View GC plans to open Saturday.

The Club at Lac La Belle in Oconomowoc will open for the season May 5.
