Kenosha Tremper senior Cameron Huss shot rounds of 75 and 71 at the 2019 WIAA Division 1 state tournament at University Ridge Golf Course in Madison. His 2-over 146 total was good for sole possession of fifth place, nine shots off the pace, in his first state tournament appearance.
What was your most memorable high school golf highlight or accomplishment? My most memorable high school golf accomplishment was at last year's state tournament because I wasn’t hitting the ball great but I found a way to score and had a lot of fun doing it.
Besides golf, what were you best known for at your high school? Besides golf, other people would know me for playing basketball. Our team was one win away from state before the season was cut short.
How did you get your start in golf? What age? Who were your early influences? My dad would bring me to the golf course when I was about three. Also I would play with my dad and grandpa at our cabin up north.
What do you remember about your first varsity match in high school? I remember playing Meadowbrook CC in Racine my freshman year and we only got five holes in before it was rained out.
Who was your most influential high school teammate and why? Although he wasn’t a teammate, my friend and competitor Piercen Hunt drove me the most to get better because I saw the level he was on freshman year and I aspired to compete with him.
What was your favorite high school tournament and why? My favorite high school tournament was the Erin Hills event because it was a great golf course and we played for an even greater cause.
What did you miss most without high school golf this spring? The thing I missed most was seeing a lot of my friends from all over the state at invitationals and competing against them.
What did you miss most about not going to school for classes this spring? I missed going to school in general because I haven’t seen any of my friends for the past couple months. I also wish we would have had a graduation and prom. All the stuff that goes with the end of senior year we missed out on and it is unfortunate.
What are your plans for this fall? What college do you plan to attend? I will play golf at the University of Wisconsin-Madison this fall. I can’t wait to get on campus and start competing every day and getting better every day. I also look forward to classes and I am excited to meet new people.
