Looking ahead

Preseason top three

Crandon, Wabeno/Laona, Florence.

Preseason all-conference

Evan Beaster, sr., Florence; Drew Boney, sr., Crandon; Bryce Ginter, sr., Crandon; Connor Monnot, jr., Wabeno/Laona; Grace Warrner, sr., Wabeno/Laona.

What to watch

Crandon graduated two first-team all-conference selections from a year ago, but return a third in senior Drew Boney and a second-team pick in 2018 in senior Bryce Ginter. That gives the Cardinals a leg up in their efforts to reel in a third straight Northern Lakes Conference championship. Returning Northern Lakes golfer of the year Grace Warrner, who will play women's golf this fall at UW-Stout, returns for her fourth season at Wabeno/Laona and will usually give the Rebels a low-to-mid-80s score at the top of the lineup. Florence returns three golfers, including second-team all-Northern Lakes selection Evan Beaster, a senior, and will battle among the title contenders. Numbers, as expected in a small-school conference, were an issue a year ago for Elcho and Three Lakes/Phelps, who only took three golfers to the WIAA regional.
