What to watch

The graduation of omnipresent Tyler Leach of Spring Valley to the collegiate ranks at Marquette will restore a bit more balance to the Dunn-St. Croix Conference this spring. The Cardinals return the middle of last year's lineup and should be a factor in the conference title chase by the end of the season, but they will need senior Braeden Dumond or juniors Kaleb Olson and Kurtis Kerr to provide a consistent fourth score behind returnees Colton Kotval, Trevor Stangle and Josh Hannack. Entering the season, however, Spring Valley coach Matt Ducklow gives a nod to Durand at the Dunn-St. Croix favorite. The Panthers return their top three golfers and four of the top five, led by senior TJ Tulip, sophomore Dawson Kurth and Julia Hayden. They finished 4-5-6 at the conference tournament behind Leach and Mondovi seniors Garrett Gifford (72) and Kobe Fuentes (78) and give Durand the most experience of any team in the conference. Mondovi brings back the three golfers behind Gifford and Fuentes, but needs at least one of them to fill the gap at the top for the Buffalos to battle Durand and Spring Valley. Glenwood City welcomes back three golfers who all broke 100 at the Dunn-St. Croix Championship at year ago, but will need them to break 90 to match what Durand and Spring Valley bring back.
