Greendale Martin Luther | 2018 Metro Classic Conference Tournament Champions

Looking back

2018 conference champion

Greendale Martin Luther placed two golfers in the top five and shot a 343 to win the Metro Classic Conference boys golf championship at Ives Grove Golf Links in Sturtevant. The Spartans finished seven strokes ahead of Racine Lutheran, which won the overall conference championship.

2018 conference medalist

Racine Prairie senior Brian Eitel and Greendale Martin Luther junior Austin Ramos shot matching 35s at Ives Grove GL to share medalist honors at the Metro Classic Championship. Eitel also earned Metro Classic player-of-the-year honors.

What to watch

Greendale Martin Luther has one of the best 1-2 tandems around in junior Joe Immekus and senior Austin Ramos, but the Spartans are going to have to see development out of the Nos. 3 and 4 position to make an impact beyond the Metro Classic Conference in a tough WIAA Division 2 Racine St. Catherine's sectional that includes Kewaskum and Waukesha Catholic Memorial. Racine Prairie will miss 2018 Metro Classic player of the year Brian Eitel and his ability to go low at the top of the lineup, but the Prairie Hawks bring back the other four golfers from a team that finished third in the conference a year ago. Conversely, Racine Lutheran — the overall conference champion a year ago — brings back a pair of second-team all-Metro Classic golfers in David Voss and Scooter Molbeck and adds a solid No. 3 in sophomore Riley Gall, who was a medalist in four JV events last season. But the Crusaders will need to find a consistent fourth score to challenge the top teams in the league. Racine St. Catherine's has a conference medalist contender in senior Grant Wininger, a three-time WIAA sectional qualifier, but needs to find scoring help behind him. This could be the year Burlington Catholic Central, Whitefish Bay Dominican, Kenosha St. Joseph and Milwaukee St. Thomas More make a move up the standings as all four schools return at least three golfers that gained varsity experience in 2018.
