Steve Stricker | 2018 QBE Shootout

Madison's Steve Stricker has withdrawn from the QBE Shootout next week in Naples, Fla., due to a nagging virus unrelated to COVID-19, according the tournament's website.

The Shootout, a premier PGA Tour post-season event, is scheduled for Dec. 8-12 at the Tiburon Golf Club at The Ritz-Carlton Resort in Naples.

Started in 1989 by host Greg Norman, the tournament features 12 two-person teams. Stricker had been scheduled to play with Sean O'Hair, whom he won with in 2017. Stricker also won in 2009 with Jerry Kelly. He has played in the Shootout 12 times.

Stricker will be replaced next week by PGA Tour rookie of the Year Will Zalatoris.

Stricker's only tournament appearance since captaining the U.S. Ryder Cup team to victory at the end of September at Whistling Straits was at the Constellation Furyk and Friends on the PGA Tour Champions schedule Oct. 8-10 in Jacksonville, Fla. He finished tied for seventh place, seven shots behind the winner, Phil Mickelson.
