WEST CHICAGO, Illinois — Rain washed out the final round of the 2017 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin women's golf championship Saturday at Prairie Landing GC, making Carthage College junior Sarah Lyman the conference champion with a 36-hole total of 5-over-par 149.
That was the good news for the Lady Reds.
The bad news? They didn't have a chance to cut into Illinois Wesleyan's 20-stroke lead, settling for second place with a 77-over 653 total for 36 holes.
That means the Spartans will represent the CCIW for the third year in a row at the NCAA Division III Championship at Howey-In-The-Hills, Florida, in May.
Lyman, who finished second at the 2016 CCIW Championship, becomes the fourth Carthage golfer in five years to capture the conference championship. Kayla Meyer shared the title in 2014 and won it outright in 2016 while McKenzie Parks captured the title in 2015.
