W AM Bobbi Stricker tee shot

Bobbi Stricker watches her drive during the final round of the 2021 Women’s Amateur Championship.

As tends to happen during the first week at any new job, Bobbi Stricker's second day went a lot better than the first.

One day after a tough back nine left her with an opening 79 in her professional debut on the new East Coast Women's Pro Golf Tour, the former University of Wisconsin golfer bounced back Tuesday with an even-par 72 during the second round of the 54-hole Dare The Bear Women's Championship in Eustis, Fla. She birdied Nos. 16 and 17 to finish the day strong.

At 7-over-par 151, Stricker goes into Wednesday's final round six shots behind 20-year-old Mohan Du (74) of China and former Wake Forest golfer Nanette Hill (68). As she traded Twitter messages with a reporter, Stricker couldn't help but point to a pair of triple-bogeys in that 43 on the back nine Monday as being the difference in her week ... so far.

"It was sooooo windy (Monday)," Stricker wrote. "The short game mistakes that I compounded ... got so inside my head — like 'If I would've just made two bogeys!' But (Tuesday) was so much better. I hit it really good both (days), but obviously limited my mistakes finished strong, which i’m proud of myself for."

Indeed, Stricker left Black Bear Golf Club feeling much more like a polished professional than she did Monday.

Of course, it's a little early for Stricker to get caught up in labels. Stricker competed in the first stage of LPGA/Symetra Tour Qualifying School near Palm Springs, Calif., in August as an amateur and earned conditional Symetra Tour status on the LPGA Tour's top developmental circuit by making the 54-hole cut.

As recently as late December, Stricker planned to focus her 2022 competitive schedule on the Women's All-Pro Tour, a feeder circuit for the Symetra Tour, while waiting for Symetra Tour starts to come her way. In the meantime, she found opportunities to compete on the ECWPGT, born out of the former National Women's Golf Association Tour for developmental-tour golfers ranked outside the top 14 on the Symetra Tour money list, as she and her family spend the winter in Florida while her father Steve continues his recovery from an illness that will likely to keep him from competing on the PGA Tour or PGA Tour Champions until late March, at the earliest.

"I just want to continue to get better," wrote Stricker, who played tennis at Waunakee High School before diving head-first into competitive golf as a freshman walk-on for the Badgers in 2016. "That has forever been my goal throughout my golf journey. I just want to see where God takes me. I have little goals and big aspirations, for sure, (that I really like to keep internal), but I just love working hard on it and competing."

That she will earn a paycheck from the $25,000 purse — the winner gets $10,000 — is admittedly difficult to ignore, Stricker wrote. In fact, she admitted that her newly minted change in status might have weighed too heavily on her mind Monday — especially after making the turn in even-par and in a tie for second place.

"I was more nervous (Monday) and felt more confident (Tuesday)," wrote Stricker, the 2021 Wisconsin Women's State Amateur champion and runner-up to Milton's Mia Seeman for 2021 Wisconsin women's amateur of the year. "I really haven't thought a ton about it — the fact that I turned pro. I don't like to make a big deal about it in my head because it doesn't change the game and it doesn't change the way I am. I still am Bobbi who just loves the game of golf."
