PINEHURST, North Carolina — The best thing to come Sunday out of the final round of the first week of the inaugural LPGA Q-Series for Lexi Harkins and Allyssa Ferrell might have been the two-day break before the final 72 holes.
Harkins, a former University of Wisconsin golfer, and Ferrell, an Edgerton native, struggled to matching 5-over-par 77s on Pinehurst's No. 6 course in the fourth round of the marathon, eight-round qualifying finale for exempt status on the LPGA Tour in 2019. That left Harkins in a tie for 51st place at 8-over-par 296 and Ferrell in a tie for 95th place at 16-over 304 as action shifts this week to Pinehurst No. 7 for the final 72 holes of the 144-hole event.
The top-45 finishers and ties receive LPGA membership in Category 14 on the LPGA Priority List with the remaining competitors earning Symetra Tour status. Round 5 will begin the second half of the Q-Series on Wednesday.
